Behind bars, we see three everyday scenes that seek to reflect all the life we miss when we shut ourselves away, absorbed in our phones. Friendship, love, and family relationships fade under the relentless glow of the screen. A young boy looks to his father, silently asking for his attention; a teenage girl blindly swings at the ghosts she sees everywhere, alone; and up on the rooftop, friends no longer laugh beneath the stars as they once did.
All the characters are far removed from where they physically are, endlessly attending to brief messages from other realities.
We use a fixed 35mm lens to observe these people in their surroundings without being seen. We create a cold atmosphere to convey their loneliness, with just enough darkness for their faces to be illuminated by the glow of their phones. We use a cinematic aesthetic to get as close to reality as possible, as though these were frames from a film that, unfortunately, we see playing out everywhere, all the time.
